Technical Direction
On the shop floor, I am a maker of outrageous things. Be it the transformation of performance spaces into entirely different locations or the filling of an environment with things that defy expectations, I live for engineering the imagined.

About my practice
Technical Design
A part of the work that I do is translating design concepts into actionable plans for actualization. This often includes modeling and drafting elements in CAD software to make clear build drawings, pricing and budgeting materials for various potential build strategies, creating paperwork and schedules to document the progress of a project, creating contingency plans for potential hazards present within the work, and making mock ups of anything I want to test at a small scale before tackling the bulk of the project.
I often use CAD softwares such as AutoCAD, Fusion360, Solidworks, Vectorworks, Revit, etc. to plan out the technical design of a project via drafting packages or 3D models. Then I use software like Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel to plan out time and budget and begin making mock ups.
Fabrication
With finished technical designs, I also work as a fabricator, making the designs real through use of maker skills in carpentry, metalworking, machining, sculpting, painting, and more. I tend to use a blend of modern digital fabrication techniques with tools such as 3D printers or CNC tables in conjunction with classic stagecraft practices and tools in order to efficiently and artistically produce one of a kind projects.
I strive for an ever shifting balance between precision and efficiency in my craftsmanship. I precisely place every cut and screw with consideration for the project as its own work of art while ensuring I turn out complete products regardless of how long or brief my deadlines are.
Installation
Aside from planning and building, I also handle full installation of projects which could involve any manner of work that ties my designed and fabricated elements into a grander project. A part of my install work involves incorporating scenery with any electronic elements (lights, sound, video, automation, animatronics, etc.). This is something I have recently explored through readings, research, overhire work, and classes whose projects inspired me to play with electronic components to make interactive elements such as my light-reactive eye which “squints“ to regulate intake of different lighting conditions. This could also include rigging elements that are hung or flown which is a field I have taken a particular affinity to. I have even attended conferences as well as classes on entertainment rigging practices and become a certified SPRAT-I rigging technician compitent to work at heights. Other aspects of my installation work may involve painting/treating/finishing in space, quality assurance testing, and any other work that needs to be done on and/or within the space that the work will call home.
